Program
Day 1Chandigarh - Sissu - Jispa
- Ride through the Atal Tunnel, the world’s longest highway tunnel at this altitude.
- Stop at Sissu Lake, a tranquil water body reflecting towering peaks.
- Stay overnight in Jispa, a serene Himalayan village along the Bhaga River.
Day 2Jispa - Gonbo Rangyon - Padum
- Cross Shinku La (5,091 m/16,580 ft), a thrilling high-altitude pass leading into Zanskar.
- Witness the sacred Gonbo Rangyon, a towering monolithic rock revered by locals.
- Stay overnight in Padum, immersed in the peace of Zanskar.
Trek to Phugtal Monastery – one of the most jaw-dropping and isolated spiritual retreats in the Himalayas.
Day 3Padum - Lingshed - Lamyuru
- Ride through Sirsir la pass (4,084 metres) and Singe la pass (5,091 metres)
- Arrive at Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh’s oldest, set in a surreal “Moonland” landscape.
- Stay overnight in Lamayuru, experiencing its peaceful surroundings.
Day 4Lamayuru - Alchi - Likir - Leh
- Visit Alchi Monastery, famous for its ancient wall paintings.
- Explore Likir Monastery, home to a massive golden Buddha statue.
- Witness the Indus-Zanskar Confluence, where two mighty rivers merge.
- Experience the gravitational mystery of Magnetic Hill, where vehicles appear to defy gravity.
- Arrive in Leh and relax before the next adventure.
Day 5Explore Leh
- Visit Shey Palace, once the royal residence of Ladakh’s kings.
- Explore Thiksey Monastery, a stunning hilltop monastery resembling Tibet’s Potala Palace.
- Watch the sunset at Shanti Stupa, with panoramic views of Leh.
- Walk through Leh Palace, a historic 17th-century structure overlooking the city.
- Stroll through Leh Bazaar, known for its Tibetan handicrafts and souvenirs.
Day 6Leh – Changthang – Hanle
- Ride from Leh into the vast Changthang plateau, one of Ladakh’s most remote and surreal regions.
- The route takes you through endless high-altitude plains, salt lakes, and nomadic settlements, offering a true sense of isolation and raw beauty.
- Arrive at Hanle, home to the famous astronomical observatory and part of India’s Dark Sky Reserve, renowned for its crystal-clear night skies. Overnight stay in Hanle.
Day 7Hanle – Umling La / Mig La – Hanle
- An early start for one of the most iconic rides of the expedition. Ride from Hanle to Umling La / Mig La, at 19,400 feet it’s the world’s highest motorable road, passing through extremely remote terrain and high-altitude plains of the Changthang region.
- This challenging yet rewarding ride offers unmatched views and a true sense of adventure before returning to Hanle by evening.
- Overnight stay in Hanle under some of the clearest night skies in the world.
Day 8Hanle – Nyoma – Tso Moriri
- Ride from the remote village of Hanle through Nyoma, traversing the vast and surreal landscapes of the Changthang plateau.
- The route offers expansive views, nomadic settlements, and wide-open high-altitude plains. Arrive at the pristine blue waters of Tso Moriri Lake, one of Ladakh’s most beautiful and untouched high-altitude lakes.
- Overnight stay near Tso Moriri, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.
Day 9Tso Moriri – Sarchu
- Ride from the serene high-altitude lake of Tso Moriritowards Sarchu, traversing some of Ladakh’s most dramatic landscapes. En route, cross iconic More Plains, Lachung La (5,059 m / 16,616 ft) and Nakee La (4,769 m / 15,547 ft), experiencing the raw and untamed beauty of the region.
- Arrive at Sarchu, a remote high-altitude plateau known for its vast open landscapes and spectacular night skies. Overnight stay at the campsite.
Day 10Sarchu - Manali
- Cross Baralacha La (4,890 m / 16,040 ft), a high-altitude pass offering stunning views.
- Cross the Atal Tunnel and descend back into the lush Kullu Valley, completing your epic journey.
- Arrive in Manali, celebrating the successful completion of an extraordinary adventure.

This was the most rewarding experience of my life. . Spiti Ecosphere gave me an amazing volunteering opportunity that allowed me to help build a greenhouse in a small village in Spiti Valley, a mountain desert where nothing grows. I signed up for Ecosphere’s 2-week voluntourism program that combines volunteer work with the opportunity to explore the beauty of the valley without the negative side effects of commercial tourism. . What Ishita and Ecosphere are doing in Spiti is remarkable. Ecosphere is helping local communities create sustainable means of living through its many projects, volunteerism being just one of them.
