  • Sangam: Witness the spectacular confluence of the emerald Indus and the muddy Zanskar rivers.

Day 3Leh - Khardung La - Turtuk

  • Cross Khardung La (5,359 m / 17,982 ft) today, one of the highest motorable roads in the world.
  • Immerse in Frontier History: Enter Turtuk, a village that “changed nations” overnight in 1971, and explore its fascinating Balti heritage and apricot orchards.

Day 4Turtuk - Nubra Valley

  • Visit the Turtuk Heritage House and museum today to learn about the village’s transition from Pakistan to India in 1971.
  • Drive to the very last point of the Indian border at Thang, where you can see Pakistani army posts across the valley.
  • Drive to Hunder to explore the sprawling white sand dunes set against the backdrop of jagged, snow-capped peaks.
  • Meet the Bactrian Camels, a relic of the ancient Silk Road trade that once passed through this very valley.
  • Enjoy a quiet evening in Nubra valley, preparing for the rugged river-track that awaits us tomorrow.

Day 5Nubra Valley - Diskit - Shyok - Pangong Tso

  • Visit Diskit Monastery to see the 106-foot Maitreya Buddha statue, which overlooks the valley toward the Pakistan border.
  • Traverse the rugged Shyok Valley route. This is a true overlanding experience where the road winds through spectacular river-carved canyons.
  • Arrive at the legendary Pangong Tso, the world’s highest saltwater lake. This 134km long lake is famous for its “color-changing” waters, shifting through every shade of blue and turquoise throughout the day.
  • Experience the sheer scale of this high-altitude lake, which stretches across the international border into China, surrounded by the barren majesty of the Changthang range.
  • Spend the evening by the lakeside, witnessing the play of light and shadow on the water as the sun sets over the Himalayas.

Day 8Hanle - Hemis - Thiksey - Leh

  • Follow the winding Indus River through deep canyons and vast open plains as you transition from the high-altitude desert back toward the capital.
  • Visit the most significant monastery in Ladakh. Tucked away in a side valley, Hemis is famous for its stunning architecture and its legendary hidden courtyard.
  • Marvel at the “Mini Potala.” Perched on a hill, Thiksey is one of the most photographed monasteries in the world and houses the magnificent 49-foot Maitreya (Future) Buddha statue.
  • Return to Leh: Reach Leh by evening to enjoy a celebratory farewell dinner and reflect on the incredible 19,000 ft journey through the frontier.
