Day 1Chandigarh - Narkanda
- Begin your journey from Chandigarh
- Embark on a thrilling drive through the scenic mountains of Himachal
- Drive through winding roads and through Apple Orchards.
- Reach Narkanda by evening, a quaint Himalayan town nestled amidst apple orchards and pine forests and unwind in the crisp mountain air.
- Overnight stay in Narkanda.
Day 2Narkanda - Rampur - Sangla Valley
- Today’s drive takes you from the pine-covered slopes of Narkanda down to the Sutlej Valley, tracing the river as it carves through deep gorges and apple-laden hillsides. The winding mountain roads offer a mix of smooth stretches and rugged bends — a true Himalayan drive.
- By afternoon, you enter the Sanglay Valley, surrounded by snow-clad peaks and cedar forests. Settle in and enjoy the crisp mountain air and the charm of this remote Kinnauri valley.
Day 3Sangla Valley - Chitkul - Kalpa
- Drive to Chitkul, the last village nestled in the valley near the Tibet border.
- Continue your adventure to Kalpa, a charming village that unveils awe-inspiring vistas of the magnificent Kinner Kailash range, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists.
- By evening, settle into Kalpa’s peaceful rhythm as the mountains glow golden with the setting sun.
Day 4Kalpa - Nako - Tabo - Kaza
- Thrilling drives today along roads carved out of rocks – commonly known as one of the World’s Most Dangerous Roads.
- Experience the transition from the lush Satluj Valley to the rugged desert terrain of the Spiti Valley.
- Explore the serene beauty of the frozen Nako Lake.
- Visit Lepcha La, a high-altitude pass near India–China border.
- Continue to Tabo, where the day ends.
Day 5Tabo - Dhankhar - Pin Valley - Kaza
- Visit the mystical realm of Tabo – the Ajanta of the Himalayas, where the ancient Tabo Monastery stands for over a millennium.
- Explore the ancient Dhankhar Monastery and Fort; trek to the pristine Dhankhar lake if the trail is open.
- Drive through the spectacular Pin Valley to its last village, Mudh, before ending your day in Kaza.
- Overnight stay in Kaza.
Day 6Kaza - Langza - Hikkim - Komic - Key - Kibber - Chicham - Kaza
- Begin your day with a drive from Kaza to the high-altitude village of Langza, known for its giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley and rich fossil beds from the prehistoric Tethys Sea.
- Continue onward to Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office — a great place to send a postcard from the edge of civilization.
- Head further up to Komic, the highest motorable villages in the world at over 15000 ft, where you’ll find the ancient Komic Monastery and sweeping views of the Spiti landscape.
- Visit the iconic Key Monastery, perched dramatically on a hilltop overlooking the Spiti River — a living center of Buddhist learning and meditation.
- Drive further to Kibber and cross the impressive Chicham Bridge, Asia’s highest suspension bridge, offering jaw-dropping views of the gorge below.
- Traverse the hunting grounds of the Snow Leopard as you ride along the buffer of the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary and if lucky spot the elusive Leopard.
- Spend time soaking in the unique high-altitude lifestyle and lunar-like terrain before returning to Kaza by evening.
Day 7Kaza - Rampur
- An early start today as we begin the long descent from Kaza towards the lush valleys of Kinnaur.
- The route retraces the winding roads through Tabo and Nako, offering changing vistas — from stark Spitian landscapes to pine-covered slopes and apple orchards.
- After a scenic drive, we reach Rampur by evening, where the cool forest air and cozy mountain charm make for the perfect finale to your Himalayan adventure.
Day 8Rampur - Shimla - Chandigarh
- The final leg of your journey takes you from the pine forests of Narkanda down through Shimla, tracing smooth mountain curves and winding roads that gradually lead back to the plains.
- As the cool mountain air gives way to the warmth of Chandigarh, you’ll feel the satisfaction of completing an incredible Himalayan drive — filled with mountain passes, remote valleys, and unforgettable memories from the high roads of Spiti.

This was the most rewarding experience of my life. . Spiti Ecosphere gave me an amazing volunteering opportunity that allowed me to help build a greenhouse in a small village in Spiti Valley, a mountain desert where nothing grows. I signed up for Ecosphere’s 2-week voluntourism program that combines volunteer work with the opportunity to explore the beauty of the valley without the negative side effects of commercial tourism. . What Ishita and Ecosphere are doing in Spiti is remarkable. Ecosphere is helping local communities create sustainable means of living through its many projects, volunteerism being just one of them.
